Thanks to a grant from Bendigo Bank we will be restoring an area of public land where One Mile Creek meets the Ovens River. You will have noticed what a mess this area is as you leave Porepunkah on the way to Myrtleford. It is infested with large woody weeds and is in bad condition. We will be restoring this as part of the work we have been doing upstream towards the Buckland River confluence. The North East Catchment Management Authority (NECMA) will be assisting with the machinery work.
Large woody weeds such as Box Alder, Poplar, Willows, Sycamare and blackberry will be mechanically removed, put into piles and burnt. Follow up weed spraying will take place including ground weeds such as Blue Periwinkle and Caper Spurge. In Winter/Spring 2023, the Group will plant 500-plus plants indigenous to the area. The local community will be invited to join in this activity and to contribute to the ongoing maintenance of the area.
