Environmental monitoring helps us understand patterns and changes in the environment and wildlife over time.

Monitoring can be focused on specific questions where we may want to know more about local wildlife, a particular species, find out how different species are affected by human interaction, or look at seasonal changes.

The use of cameras through citizen science can help to generate knowledge from areas which may not typically be surveyed otherwise. This data can then be shared through open-source platforms such as iNaturalist which contribute to data sources such as the Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) or the Victorian Biodiversity Atlas (VBA) and can greatly contribute to the knowledge of a species. Likewise, data on the locations of pests and threats can assist land managers in best planning and managing these species.

UOVLG has a number of cameras available for remote monitoring.  If you are interested please get in touch with Peter Jacobs via the email info@upperovenslandcare.org.au to find out how you can get involved in this exciting (and fun) citizen science project.
